Historical Era (HE) Year Dating Scheme

Angloheathens use a Year Dating system which is exactly 2000 years ahead of the Common or Christian Era. So the year 2012 CE is 4012 HE to Angloheathens.

It is based on the birthdate of Zarathustra and the beginning of the age of Aries. This is on the grounds that Zarathustra is the world’s first known philosopher and can stake a claim to being the father of modern civilisation. There is conjecture as to when Zarathustra was actually born but there is a tradition that it coincides with the beginning of the astronomical age of Aries approximately 2000BC.

Also the aim is to have a dating scheme that is practical so that people will actually use it. Thus it is aligned with the Christian Era. While you can argue that recorded history begins before 2000BC , most of the the events of classical history happen well after this. It seems a benefit to have a dating scheme that doesn’t start in the middle of history and force you to count backwards for many of its important events.
