Back The Five Strivings

Clear Sight - (Truthseeking & Enlightenment)

We can only do what is good if we understand how the world works. Thus we must seek the truth about the world using the full resources of our reason and our intellect. We may also need to engage in personal introspective discipline so that we learn better to distinguish what is apparent from what is real, and what excites our own emotions from what is really important.

Right Concern - (Holism and Moral Attitude)

We believe that all life has intrinsic value and deserves our concern when we are acting as fully moral beings. We seek to foster our sense of compassion for others and expand our vision to consider all the factors coming to play in a situation. We ourselves are part of the world and often working for our own benefit is the best thing we can do. However we must always keep an eye on the overall picture so that we do not pursue our own interests to the detriment of the Whole.

Right Strength

In order for us to influence the world we must have sufficient internal strength and potential.

Right Dominion (Self-Rule/Other-Rule) - (Autarchism)

We can only do what is good if we have the power to do so. If the pattern of our lives is completely out our control then our thoughts as to what might be a good or a bad course of action are of no account. Thus we seek to gain control of the way we expend our energies, and gain access to physical resources, and seek to combine together with like-minded people.

Good Influence

It is not sufficient just to find out what the world needs. It is necessary to play one's part in improving it.
